The Energy Institute (Institute of Petroleum) has approved a test standard for the use of automatic particle counters to determine the level of cleanliness of aviation turbine fuel, with the intention to replace the gravimetric test method with automatic particle counting at the earliest opportunity.

This standard was accepted by the certification authorities for inclusion in DEF STAN 91-91 (6).
